SaskTel Pioneers win 20 Awards at International Convention

The TelecomPioneers International volunteer organization has awarded the SaskTel Pioneers 20 awards for volunteering excellence at the TelecomPioneers 82nd Annual General Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana February 26-28, 2009.

"Since 1947, the SaskTel Pioneers have been helping to make life better for Saskatchewan communities", said Ken Cheveldayoff, Minister of Crown Corporations. "The SaskTel Pioneers are an example of the power of volunteerism and an inspiration to anyone who wants to help make our province a better place to live."

"SaskTel is fortunate to have a terrific volunteer organization like the SaskTel Pioneers", said Robert Watson, SaskTel President and CEO. "Year after year, the Pioneers give their own time and money to help make a difference in communities across the province. Congratulations to all members for another award-winning year."

"We're humbled by these awards from our national and international peers," said Deborah Harris, President of the SaskTel Pioneers. "Serving the community is its own reward, but we're proud to celebrate our members and the difference they're making in the lives of Saskatchewan people."

The SaskTel Pioneers won the following awards at the TelecomPioneers general meeting:

  • Community Impact Award, international level, for improving quality of life in Saskatchewan communities.
  • Tom Myers Award for overall excellence in a Canadian Chapter. The award is named after a current SaskTel employee who is a former TelecomPioneers Vice-President.
  • 5 International Project Excellence Awards: Saskatchewan Champions for Literacy, SecurTek Maternity Ward Project, Saskatchewan Partners for Life, Prince Albert Pioneer Family Futures Layette Project, SecurTek Hair for Palliative Care project.
  • 1 Gold Project Excellence Award, National level for SecurTek Hair for Palliative Care Project.
  • 1 Power up to Read Award, international level, for excellence in volunteer implementation.
  • 9 Heart of Pioneering awards, national level: Computers for Success, Hug-A-Bears, Discover the Magic, Financial Donations, Christmas Project, Backpacks for Kids, Books for Literacy, Personal Care Kits, Junior Achievement.
  • 2 Individual Excellence Awards, national level, for Pioneer Life Members Jean Bryski and Dennis Riach.
